Before you can study in Germany your High School qualification (IB Diploma or High School Diploma) must be converted to the German equivalent of an Abitur. Typically, they ask for at least 32 points (not including the bonus points), and require that IB Diploma students have either Maths or a Natural Sciences subject (biology, physics, chemistry) at Higher Level and with a minimum C1 German level.

In the UK, there is one central universities and colleges admissions service, UCAS. The UCAS website offers British and international students all the information they need on applying to university in the UK.

IB Diploma

It explains that UK universities and colleges accept the International Baccalaureate Diploma for entry to all first degree courses and higher education institutions. However, the standards required are decided by every institution individually and vary considerably depending on the institution and the course.

What is the difference between Oxford, Cambridge and other UK universities?

UK Immigration and Visa Information
Once you have been offered a place to study in the UK, you must make sure that you meet all the immigration regulations for international students. Studying at US universities
There is no national ministry or centralized bureaucracy in the United States that controls university admission or placement. Instead, each college or university is responsible for setting its own policies. Interested students must make direct contact with the colleges/universities they would like to attend.

IB Diploma

Differences between universities and colleges
There are over 4,000 universities and colleges in the USA. Admission to some (e.g. the eight Ivy League universities) is very difficult to attain as they admit only 10% of applicants. Others are easier. One real advantage of the US system is that a student doesn’t need to declare a major until the end of their second year or beginning of their third year. This can offer real flexibility for a student who is unsure about the subject s/he wants to study.

American colleges and universities all tend to operate their own systems and are a law unto themselves. This means students must be very careful during both their research and application with regards to deadlines and other specific requirements.

Costs of education
The costs of US higher education institutions vary a great deal. State universities are generally the least expensive while Ivy League/highly selective private universities are the most expensive. It should be noted, however, that financial aid does exist at many colleges, although it is limited for international students. Follow this link for more information on this topic.

US Admission Selection Process
For admission purposes, most four-year colleges will require a High School Diploma or IB Diploma, the SAT or ACT, and TOEFL (only for non-native English speakers) examination results.

Admissions officers are looking for students who continue to challenge themselves and have made the most out of their educational environments. Students taking the full IB Diploma will gain preference over students with higher test scores but who are following a less demanding programme. Universities look for students who are contributing to their community and continuing to develop personally. Schools look for reasons to admit, rather than reject, applicants. US admissions officers put together a file that will include the following information:

• Your grades from Grade 9 to 12 (your 'Transcript')
• Your application
• Your test scores
• Your school recommendation: school report and evaluation by the University Counsellor
• Your teacher recommendations

The Common Application
There are over 500 universities that have adopted the common application procedure. This is an online admission application that students may submit to any of the member colleges/universities. Once completed online, copies of the First Year Application packet can be sent to any number of participating colleges. This allows applicants to save time since one application goes to all the universities selected.

US University Acceptance Procedures
Universities in the US have different acceptance notification procedures. The majority of universities will mail their notifications in March and April and you must reply by May 1^st. However, most students applying early will be notified by the end of December of their Senior year.
