Early Years

Learning happens everywhere at ICS. On Monday 29 January our Early Years Centre will be holding an Open House from 9:15 – 11:30, welcoming parents and children aged 3 to 5 who are interested learning more about the EYC. Our Early Years Coordinator will be on hand to answer questions, accompany parents as they explore EY classrooms and learning spaces, and discuss your child's individual needs.

ICS Early Years classrooms are designed to support and extend learning in a calm, purposeful and engaging environment, providing children with a sense of home and belonging. In addition, outdoor spaces play an important role in learning with access to two courtyards adjacent to the classrooms as well as a large, wood-chipped playground, a mud kitchen, vegetable patches, a pond and the beautifully designed Research Garden.

EYC staff and students also learn together each week throughout the seasons in the forest surrounding the school. Opportunity to learn in the natural environment, share what they have discovered and reflect on observations are all part of the explorations. Early Years children's learning is encouraged through both structured and child-initiated inquiries, which provide opportunities to follow their own interests and passions as well as explore new ideas and concepts.

At the Open House, the EY Coordinator will provide parents with information about the IB (International Baccalaureate) Primary Years Programme, our bilingual (English/German) strand, ICS Waldkinder (forest) learning, and the Extended Care Programmes offered at ICS.

The ICS EYC IB Primary Years Programme supports the development of academic and social skills of young children starting their individual learning journeys. As they take part in relevant and stimulating learning experiences, they become confident, motivated inquirers. EY learners build theories and are encouraged to actively seek answers to their questions as they engage in academic learning through play opportunities that are relevant, challenging and significant to them.

The entire ICS Early Years teaching team looks forward to warmly welcoming EY students, parents, siblings, and friends to the Early Years Centre Open House on 29 January. Please RSVP here. See you there!
