On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 August, ICS Early Years and Primary parents were invited to meet the Senior Membership Team, teachers and specialist teachers at two 'Back to School' Information evenings which took place in the Main Hall and EY and Primary classrooms from 18:30 – 20:30.
The Culture of Learning and High Expectations at ICS endorses the philosophy that "learning happens everywhere" and Primary Principal Julian Edwards spoke to parents as the evening got underway about the new learning spaces at ICS and about how our Primary students are strongly encouraged to become self-directed learners who are confident that they develop understanding, knowledge and skills in any context. ICS strives to make the Home Learning connection between the classroom and their family environment. In addition to a particular focus on developing readers through home learning, students are encouraged to initiate their own learning at home naturally, through seeking independence, and following their own interests and investigations.
Mr Edwards then invited parents to visit their children's individual classrooms where the class teachers awaited them with presentations which provided information and gave parents the opportunity to ask any questions they might have.
Following the classroom sessions, parents returned to the Main Hall where tables had been set up and specialist teachers were available to provide information on The Primary Years Programme, Student Support Services, English as an Additional Language, the Library, Student Support Services, Extended School Care and E-Learning, just to name a few.
Over refreshments, the final part of the evening offered parents an opportunity to speak personally with their child's classroom teacher and gain a better understanding of class and year levels.
