Gabriel Di Mauro, Secondary Principal
28 March 2025
I will venture to say it is a rare thing for a principal to join a school mid-year. The normal arc of an educator’s life follows a distinct path: August kick-off, followed by autumnal sprints, a brief hiemal hibernation, vernal (re)focus, and estival farewells. It is, in many ways, an unnatural feeling to join these proceedings in medias res. And yet, it has been such a gift to engage with a community that is passionately living out its core values each day. It is one thing to be welcoming, humble, resilient, and committed in August. It is quite another to embody those same values in February or March, when emotions can run a little higher, pressures mount, and when relationships can strain.
The unwavering dedication, support, and partnership of our students, parents, faculty, and staff have left me in no doubt as to the relational strength that sustains this community through all seasons, in all circumstances. As we move towards the exciting formation of Middle and Senior Schools, I would be remiss if I did not express some small sorrow at the prospect of saying goodbye to next year’s Middle Schoolers. I am grateful to know they are not far, they are in excellent hands and that I will soon see them again. I am also deeply happy to have known them in my capacity as Secondary School principal this semester.
With exciting developments in our physical and immaterial environments, I look ahead with great confidence and expectation that we will continue to support one another to achieve our potential, pursue our passions, and fulfill our responsibilities. My personal thanks to everyone who has met me in the middle of this school year and supported my own transition to ICS. We have much to celebrate as we look back over this year and much to anticipate in the year to come. As long as we continue meeting one another with the same care and kindness I have experienced as a new member to the ICS family, we will continue to move from strength to strength, no matter what.
In partnership,
Gabriel Di Mauro
