I have started to become accustomed to seeing displays of the intelligence and skill with which ICS faculty approach their daily practice. I have also begun to expect the highly positive collegial atmosphere and levels of collaboration in our weekly meetings. It is a rare gift, however, to bear witness to the endurance and camaraderie faculty display outside of the classroom.

This week, I am honouring a group of faculty members who spent part of last weekend zooming across city streets and forest trails of the annual Sola Lauf relay. This team of 14 ICS faculty collectively completed the 115 km race in 14 stages ranging from 4 to 14 km. The team consisted of Ethan Cherin, Michael Dixon, Pete Morton, Jennifer Schmitt, Sean Stevens, Conor O’Brien, Monica Pombinho, Abigail Beeson, parent Alex Lieber, Sabina Michelotti, Des Turton, Joel Young, Gregg Davis, and none other than the inimitable James Penstone himself. They finished 69th out of 1106 teams, and set a new school record of 8h46min, with Mr Penstone completing the last leg.

To the conquering heroes of the course, I commend you. Quite the testament to the resilience and commitment of our faculty to themselves and to one another.
