Firstfeier: A milestone in the Making of our Extension Building
Yesterday marked a very special moment on our construction site: the traditional topping-out ceremony. This custom, with roots reaching back many centuries in the building trades in Switzerland, represents far more than the completion of the roof structure. It is a festive milestone that symbolises progress, gratitude, and hope for the future. The ceremony is held once the basic structure and the roof framework of a building are complete. As accustomed, a small tree has been raised on the highest point of the building, and a short speech was given by Johannes Käferstein, our architect, to honour the craftsmanship and to offer good wishes for the safety of those who will work and learn inside the finished building. The gesture symbolises growth, protection, and the belief that the building will be a good place for its future community, which is ours.
For our school, this ceremony carries a special meaning. It reminds us that a school is not just a structure made of concrete, wood, or steel. It is a place shaped by relationships, ideas, and shared purpose. With the roof now in place, what has long existed in plans, designs, and conversations is becoming something tangible: a new space for learning, discovery, community, and belonging.
The celebration brought together architects, construction workers, and representatives of the school. It was a moment of togetherness and appreciation — a recognition of the skilled hands and thoughtful planning that make this project possible. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. Your expertise and dedication are laying the foundation for the future of our students.
Now that the structure stands, we look forward to seeing the interior spaces take shape, places where students can grow, create, and form lasting connections. This milestone reminds us that we are building something meaningful together: not only an extension, but the future of our learning community.
