Celebrating 65 Years of Excellence: Our Teachers at the Heart of ICS
26 September 2025
At ICS, our strength has always been our community. For 65 years, families, students, alumni, and teachers have come together in partnership to create a school where every child is known, valued, and inspired to thrive. This milestone is more than a celebration of our history—it is a testament to the powerful relationships that connect us and define who we are.
At last week’s 65th anniversary celebration, Friday 19 September 2025, our students spoke beautifully about what ICS means to them. Again and again, they highlighted the power of their relationships with their teachers—the adults who guide them, challenge them, and believe in them every day. This same theme has been echoed strongly during our Head of School search this past week. Across conversations with students, faculty, and parents, it was clear that what makes ICS extraordinary is the deep, authentic connections between teachers, students and parents.
The world has changed dramatically since ICS first opened its doors. Today’s educators work in a context that is more complex and fast-paced than ever before. The rapid evolution of technology, the challenges of a globalised society, and the increasing demands on schools have reshaped the very nature of teaching. Teachers are no longer just transmitters of knowledge—they are mentors, designers of learning experiences, advocates for student wellbeing, and trusted partners for families. And yet, the teaching profession is not always afforded the recognition and respect it deserves.

At ICS, we are committed to respecting teachers as the highly skilled, reflective professionals they are. Our educators bring with them diverse experiences and perspectives from schools around the world, enriching our community with global expertise. They engage in continuous professional learning, ensuring they remain at the forefront of educational research and innovation. Most importantly, they devote themselves to truly knowing each child, building strong relationships and designing learning experiences that nurture curiosity, foster independence, and encourage productive struggle—the essential process through which students develop resilience, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
We also recognise that the journey of education is not always smooth. There will be moments of challenge—times when a child struggles, when misunderstandings arise, or when perspectives differ. In these moments, partnership between parents and teachers is essential. Approaching each situation with mutual respect and trust ensures that we are always working together for the good of the child. Even when the conversations are difficult, it is this shared commitment that strengthens our community and models for our students how to navigate complexity with empathy and integrity.
Behind every milestone we celebrate—whether it is academic achievement, artistic expression, athletic success, or acts of service—is a teacher who has worked tirelessly to make that moment possible. It is their expertise, creativity, and unwavering care that have built ICS’s reputation over the past 65 years.
Here’s to our teachers—the past, present, and future of ICS—and to the enduring community partnerships that enrich our school.
