Making Meaning Through Visual Arts
At ICS Visual Arts develops students’ ability to express ideas, communicate visually, and think creatively. Through individual and collaborative work, students explore different media while gaining new perspectives on the world around them.

Visual Arts at ICS
It has been found that students who frequently and actively engaged with the Arts in school tended to be more academically engaged and more motivated in school subjects. Recent studies have demonstrated the social and emotional benefits of studying the Arts across all areas of learning. At ICS we understand and value the importance of the Arts in both a student’s academic and personal life. Students being creative, expressing themselves, communicating with others, collaborating, and solving problems is a key component of the International Baccalaureate Programme. From our preschool programme through to Grade 12 Visual Arts play a significant role in the academic curriculum.
Primary Years Visual Arts
In the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Arts encompass Visual Art, Performing Arts and Design, working together as a team to nurture imagination, creativity and original thinking. Each specialist area provides unique opportunities for students to inquire, experiment and express themselves through different forms of communication and creative processes.
The Arts in the Primary Years follow a transdisciplinary programme, allowing students to make meaningful connections between disciplines and deepen their understanding of the central ideas explored in units of inquiry. Learning experiences are designed to be authentic and purposeful, encouraging students to apply their knowledge, skills and creativity in ways that reflect the world around them.

Middle and Senior Years Visual Arts
ICS offers a dynamic Visual Arts curriculum, complemented by a co-curricular programme, that nurtures students to extend their creative intelligence and develop an inquisitive and expressive mind through a variety of art mediums, building a firm technical and conceptual foundation as they progress from the PYP to MYP and finally to the Diploma Programme.
The curriculum is constantly evolving to embrace new technologies and approaches that engage and stimulate our students’ imaginations and responses to an ever-changing world, considering its opportunities and challenges. Students develop their understanding of diverse cultural traditions and the function of the Arts, learning to take risks and explore their ideas as they strengthen their creative process. Grade 12 students will exhibit a cohesive body of work as part of the IB DP Visual Arts Programme. Also, younger years will also have opportunities to exhibit and engage their audiences.
