This year's Association of Music in International Schools (AMIS) Solo and Ensemble festival, hosted by The American School of The Hague on 29 January, was attended by 399 students from 12 international schools all over Europe.
ICS students presented solo performances of pieces ranging from baroque and classical to film music and rock. Although the festival was the first public solo performance for some students, all the ICS participants benefited from a valuable opportunity to further their performing experience. Specialist judges gave both oral and written feedback on the students' vocal and instrumental performances.
The ICS Stage Band was complimented on their great choice of music and musical interpretation. With their judge's positive comments on their elegant and confidently-executed performance of extremely challenging music as well as their excellent blend and balance, the ICS Vocal Quartet received full marks and was one of only five ensembles invited to sing at the vocal master class which concluded the festival.
"I loved the atmosphere of the festival. Everyone was really enthusiastic and supportive of each other", commented Sophie K. "All of the students just kept an awesome positive vibe wherever you went", said Julius H., and Elise M. said, "I saw so many diverse pieces being played... I also loved watching the short teaching sessions that I think can help with my own playing as well as with my teaching."
Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, the festival weekend in The Hague was an exceptional and enriching musical experience for all our ICS student performers.
