ACADEMICS
Exceptional student success
Our students benefit from a world-class education that goes far beyond great test scores. We believe in developing learners who are the drivers of their thinking, and our students are encouraged to discover how they learn best.
At ICS, there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to teaching and learning. Supported by structured inquiry at school - and urged to undertake authentic learning activities at home - students are encouraged to develop the attributes and skills associated with self-directed learners. Over time, this understanding of how to use knowledge in real-life contexts develops awareness and self-knowledge and builds character, empathy and resilience, all of which are essential to success in learning and in life.
Meaningful Learning
Our teachers believe that students learn best when given the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences and make personal connections to content. In our curriculum, students strike a balance between learning through inquiry versus acquiring skills and knowledge. They also learn how to use higher-level thinking skills and reflect on their learning, both of which prepare them for lifelong learning.
Thinking about Thinking
Metacognition, or ‘thinking about one’s thinking, involves awareness, analysis and understanding of one’s thinking processes and learning behaviours. Teachers across all divisions use metacognitive strategies to enhance the learning experience for students.
A Challenging International Curriculum
ICS offers the curriculum of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme for all grade levels. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is highly regarded throughout the world. Accreditation ensures that the educational standards of all IB schools are both exceptional and globally uniform. ICS, as an IB World school, exceeds these standards.
