Led by the Round Square Food Drive Action Group, and in support of the Sozialwerk Pfarrer Sieber, relief organisation, donations are being accepted from Monday 15 November to Tuesday 7 December.
Round Square celebrates personal development through practical experience that brings sustainable support & benefit to others, and ICS is the only Zurich area school that is a part of this prestigious worldwide community of schools.
In the spirit of service, the Round Square Food Drive Action Group, consisting of eight students from Grade 10, is helping to coordinate this traditional event. The Sozialwerk Pfarrer Sieber relief organisation that the drive supports, is a charitable organisation committed to helping people in emergency situations. During the previous year, the foundation gave away food to hundreds of area residents affected by poverty.
The initiative also highlights recycling instead of wasting, as a substantial amount of food in Switzerland spoils or is thrown away each year. The following lists items the students would greatly appreciate being donated.
Canned goods (peas, carrots, beans, tomatoes, chickpeas, tuna, sauce)
Instant mashed potatoes; polenta, pasta, rice, Rösti (hash brown potatoes)
Sugar, tea, coffee, instant drink powder, oil, vinegar
Cereals and chocolate bars
Deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, body lotion, shaving foam, disposable razors, aftershave lotion, hand cream and feminine pads.
Face masks and hand sanitizer
Non-acceptable items: fresh/short shelf-life food products, or opened, compromised packaging.
The donation collection points can be found at the Main Building and in the DSC.
In the spirit of the season, the students wish to thank everyone for their kind contributions. For additional details on ICS Round Square activities, please see here.
