Our Primary Library Shines in October with Activities, Events and Competitions

During “International School Library Month” this October, our ICS Primary library is hosting a number of special celebratory events!

Our Primary Library Shines in October with Activities, Events and Competitions Each year when October comes around, leaves change colour and begin to fall, and pumpkins are transformed into Jack o’ Lanterns, our Primary Library offers ICS students and their families a variety of activities to celebrate “International School Library Month.”

One fun family project this year will be the “Create a Book Character Pumpkin”. ICS families are invited to set their creativity and imaginations free by transforming a pumpkin or other autumn vegetable into a favourite book character and then taking its picture! The possibilities are endless and it will certainly be great fun seeing the 2020 veggie-book-character entries in a slide show on the Primary Library website.

“Finding Your Way to Good Health and Well Being in the Library’ is this year’s theme and creative challenge for talented Primary artists interested in participating in the annual design a Library poster competition. The posters will be judged by a panel of “Library Experts” and the winning design will serve as the Primary Library Logo for the entire coming school year! Students are invited to design their posters using any medium and not larger than A3 in size and are asked to submit their entries to the Primary Library by Monday 26 October.

On Friday 30 October, ICS Primary students are invited to come to school dressed as a book character. In past years, the traditional parade of characters has taken place during morning recess. This year the decision about whether the parade will take place will be made and announced closer to the date of the event.

And last, but not least – the Golden Cowbell Book Award. Launched in October and created by SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools) librarians, the Golden Cowbell Book Award promotes great literature and cross-cultural ties within the international school community of Switzerland. More information on this year’s nominated Golden Cowbell Book Award titles, as well as details about October’s library happenings are available on the Primary Library website.

As ICS continues to focus on the importance of reading independently, we are delighted to celebrate all these special October library events with our Primary students and their families.
