The first day of April began with a Preschool and Kindergarten virtual Open House at ICS.
ICS welcomed parents of children aged 18 months to 6 years interested in finding out more about the Preschool & Kindergarten Centre at ICS, to a webinar-style Open House this morning.
In two, 90-minute sessions, parents learned about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and the ICS bilingual (English/German) strand. They were able to view Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms - dedicated spaces with access to a sheltered outdoor learning environment - and learn about our Waldkinder (forest) learning programme. At its location in Zumikon, just a short car ride from downtown Zurich, the Inter-Community School Zurich is also easily accessible by public transportation from the city.
Today's Open House provided parents with an opportunity to discuss their child's specific needs with the Primary Principal and Deputy Primary Principal. From the first day they step through the door of one of our classrooms, our Preschool and Kindergarten children are part of the warm and welcoming ICS preschool family, as well as the wider ICS school community. The children are supported in an outstanding and developmentally appropriate curriculum led by teachers who are experts in the field of early childhood education. As they develop their skills and abilities, the children are empowered to build positive and respectful relationships with their teachers and classmates.
Thank you to all the Preschool and Kindergarten parents who attended today's virtual Open House sessions for your interest, participation and questions.
We would like to take this opportunity to let parents with children in Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 know that a virtual ICS Primary School Open House is coming up on 28 April and we look forward to seeing you there.
How are Primary students at ICS encouraged and supported to be inquirers, researchers, and critical thinkers? How do our Primary teachers really get to know their students, and which educational programmes help Primary students thrive in an atmosphere where a love of learning and self-discovery is a top priority?
Together with our Primary Principal and members of the Leadership Team, interested Grade 1-5 parents who participate in the upcoming virtual Primary Open House will find answers to these questions, and learn more about the exciting and rigorous international curriculum ICS offers.
Parents will discover how our Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum - based on inquiry-engages children, satisfies their natural curiosity and provides a rich and authentic learning experience for students as they move towards transiting to Middle School and beyond.
Inquiry-based learning is the core approach taken in our Primary School and successfully develops motivated, logical and self-directed learners. A recent example of this is the 2021 Grade 5 PYP Exhibition: In response to this year's Exhibition theme, the Grade 5 students' virtual exhibits, their oral, artistic and dance presentations, and the websites each individual student created, successfully achieved the goal of helping to raise awareness for a better and more peaceful world.
