Accreditation and Affiliation

We would like to extend our congratulations to the Inter-Community School Zurich for its continued commitment to school improvement and high educational standards.” New England Association of Schools & Colleges.

International Baccalaureate

ICS is an IB World School. We are the only school in Zurich fully authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer three IB programmes - the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.

The Inter-Community School, Zurich is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC). Our next accreditation visit will take place at the end of 2016.

ICS first achieved accreditation in 2006. After a five-year follow-up visit in January 2012, CIS and NEASC agreed that ICS should continue its good standing as an accredited school for a further five years. “We would like to extend our congratulations to the Inter-Community School Zurich for its continued commitment to school improvement and high educational standards” wrote the Reverend B W Woodward Jr, Director of NEASC Commission on American and International Schools Abroad when he wrote to give ICS the news.

In the report they produced, the visiting accreditation team commended ICS on a number of notable achievements including :

  • “The climate of trust and care that exists between students and staff as the basis for an outstanding environment for learning and personal development”.
  • “The academic curriculum, especially in Primary and Diploma programs, and the adaptations that have been incorporated as a result of the school mission and the open admissions policy.”
  • “A number of important structural changes including, but not limited to, the appointment of an Early Years co-ordinator, the appointment of a Primary / Middle School Counsellor, and the appointment of co-ordinators for Teaching and Learning in both the Primary and Secondary School.”
  • “The immaculate care of the campus and facilities.”

The Council of International Schools (CIS) describes its School Evaluation & Accreditation Process as a flexible, yet rigorous, vehicle for school improvement which leads to highly valued international recognition of the school. The process involves evaluation of a school in the light of the school’s own Guiding Statements (such as its Mission/Vision for Students/Educational Objectives, etc) and the CIS Standards for Accreditation. These Standards are designed to ensure that a school is offering an international education of high quality.

The New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) says of its accreditation process that: "An accredited school is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation."
