Athletics at ICS -
Go, ICS Tigers!
By Mike Findlay, ICS Athletics Director
Athletics is an integral part of ICS. As well as offering obvious health benefits, taking part in sports can instil in children such values as commitment, organisation, trust and teamwork and help them learn many important skills they can use in the outside world.
Physical Education (P.E.) classes are a scheduled part of the curriculum up to and including Grade 12.
Alongside P.E. we offer a strong competitive sports programme. Last year there were sports teams for students from Grade 2 to Grade 12 and more than 60 per cent of our students took part in competitive sports.
Our competitive sports are organised seasonally and range from basketball to volleyball, soccer, skiing, swimming, tennis and athletics, to name just a few.
The autumn season runs from late August to early November.
The winter season starts in the week of either 16 or 23 November and will finish between 28 February and 14 March.
The spring season starts in the week of either 14 or 21 March. It ends between 21 May and 4 June.
Start and end dates may vary depending on the team.Exact start dates will be given out closer to the start date. Athletes should check their team schedules for the final fixture date.
See the links on the right or view the Athletics Calendar for more details.
ICS is a member of SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools) and SCIS (Sports Council for International Schools). This enables ICS teams to take part in many international schools' sports tournaments as well as other, locally-organised events.
Grades 11 & 12 students can take part in our Sports Leadership programme. This leads to British certification as Sports Leaders. As part of this programme, students run various sports days through the year and take Physical Education classes under the supervision of a qualified P.E. teacher.
